This is my entry for the Superhero competition at Muslim-Manga!
The girl in the middle is Aya, a Japanese high school student, Muslimah, and superhero! Her power is "Sight". One eye is uncovered to reveal the physical world; one eye is covered to reveal the spiritual world. The Arabic over her eye says, "كشف" or "reveal".
In addition to "Sight", she develops several spiritual attacks and defences over time. This scene is near the beginning of her superhero career--her Qarin (a sapient being made of smoke and fire called a "Jinn", mentioned often in the Qu'ran, assigned to Aya) is advising her on how to properly punch a demon.
The man behind Aya's Qarin is also a Jinn, although one possessing a human body.
As Aya is both Japanese and Muslim, I wanted to combine the two. In addition to the Jinn, there is also a Yurei, or soul prevented from a peaceful afterlife, behind her. In Aya's adventures, she often encounters cross-cultural beings.
The boy with the book is her brother, Sura. Although he cannot see the spiritual world, he often finds himself at Aya's side. Luckily, Sura is very bright. He tries to provide Aya with information on any being they may face.
